Microsoft Dynamics 365 review
Microsoft-centred organisations wanting modular ERP with faster adoption and lower TCO.
Overview
Dynamics 365 covers ERP in modular form: Business Central for the mid-market, Finance and Supply Chain Management apps for the enterprise. Its superpower is adjacency — Teams, Excel, Power BI and the Power Platform are already where your people work, and the familiar interface measurably shortens adoption curves compared with traditional ERP. Extensibility via Power Platform lets internal teams build what consultants would otherwise charge for. The caveats: outcomes depend heavily on implementation partner quality, the deepest manufacturing scenarios still favour SAP, and Microsoft licensing is a puzzle that rewards careful study.
Strengths and weaknesses
What we like
- Native fit with Microsoft 365, Teams, Power BI and Azure
- Modular adoption — phase finance, then supply chain, then more
- Power Platform extends ERP without armies of consultants
- Familiar UX drives faster, cheaper adoption
- Business Central is a genuinely strong mid-market option
What to watch
- Implementation quality varies widely by partner
- Deepest manufacturing scenarios still favour SAP
- Licensing structure is complex and easy to over-buy
- Advanced reporting often means separate Power BI investment

Pricing
Business Central from ~$70–100/user/mo; Finance/Supply Chain ~$180–210/user/mo per app, plus partner services. Indicative list pricing.
Who Microsoft Dynamics 365 is for — and who should skip it
Best for
Microsoft-standardised mid-market and enterprise organisations, and teams that prize adoption speed and extensibility.
Probably not for
Global manufacturers at the complexity ceiling (SAP) and finance-led mega-enterprises wanting one unified suite data model (Oracle).
Our verdict — 8.6/10
Dynamics 365 is the pragmatic ERP: for the large majority of organisations below the true complexity ceiling, it delivers equivalent outcomes for less money and a happier workforce — partner selection permitting.
